About Auto Assembly

For those of you new to this site, I’d like to give you a bit of background on Auto Assembly, who we are and what we do for Transformers fandom. Auto Assembly is part of Infinite Frontiers – a sci-fi / geek organisation that has been around since August 1989 so we’re one of the oldest active groups in the UK. We first started our work with Transformers back in 1998 when we published the first issue of our fanzine The Cybertronian Times (which is still going in digital form today) and we moved into running events two years later following our success with monthly gatherings for Star Trek fans in Birmingham.

Running a Transformers convention under the Auto Assembly name, it grew to become Europe’s largest Transformers convention and took place every year in Birmingham, England and offered fans three days celebrating everything to do with Transformers! Run as a non-profit making fan-run convention it was held annually apart from 2002 and 2007 when it took “gap” years.

The convention brought fans together from all over the world – from the die-hard fans to the casual collectors and everyone in between and provided a showcase of some of the best of the UKs Transformers dealers, guests from the world of comics and voice actors from the TV shows, guest talks and autograph sessions, cosplay, competitions, workshops, displays and a range of other activities. However, for a number of reasons beyond our control including the health of key members of the team at the time and what we believed were excessive work pressures making work on the convention difficult, we brought the event to a close in 2015.

Since that time, we have been restructuring both our wider Infinite Frontiers team and what we do on the Auto Assembly side of things. Our team has been changed radically with a lot of new faces bringing people together from all aspects of our work from sci-fi, fantasy, video games and more all under one consolidated and stronger team. The Auto Assembly team itself is now focusing its energy on content provision – both here on the website and creating The Cybertronian Times and planning new content for our YouTube Channel and upcoming podcasts. We want to know just what you want to see on this and our other websites so we can give you the best possible content though. We will be running a range of reviews online but we’re adopting the same review policy across all our sites as well – as Transformers collectors will buy toys and merchandise that is both new and old, we’ll do the same with our reviews so everything is fair game. It doesn’t matter if a product has been released a few days ago or a few years ago – we’ll still give it our critical eye!

Finally, if you want to know more about all of the people behind all of our work why not pop over to this page where you can Meet The Team.
