Auto Assembly 2014 Important Travel News

AA2014 Logo

It’s been brought to our attention that there are some major roadworks taking place in Birmingham City Centre this Summer which may have an impact on some of you travelling to Auto Assembly 2014 in August. As such we wanted to bring all of you this important update on what will be taking place and what steps you can all take to minimise the impact that it will have on your trip to the convention.

In a nutshell, the A38 tunnels in Birmingham city centre will be closed during the summer for completing upgrades to the tunnels by Birmingham City Council, which will include renewing the ventilation systems, installing new security and communications systems and replacing electrical systems. As with last year’s closure, the closures will affect the St Chads and Queensway tunnels which will be completely closed to all traffic from 10pm on Friday 18th July to 6am on Monday 1st September 2014. The closure will be preceded by two weeks of overnight closures, from 10pm to 6am, and followed by up to four weeks of similar overnight closures.

Roadshows

For those of you who live in the Birmingham and surrounding areas and who are able to, a series of roadshows are being held in and around Birmingham City Centre (as listed below) to raise awareness of the closures and provide information on alternative travel options available to those travelling into the city centre during this period, such as public transport options taking place on:

  • 2nd July – Centenary Square roadshow (10am – 6pm)
  • 14th July – Victoria Square roadshow (10am – 6pm)

These roadshows are open to the public.
