About Auto Assembly

For those of you new to this site, Auto Assembly is Europe’s largest Transformers convention which takes place every year in Birmingham, England each August. The convention offers fans three days celebrating everything to do with Transformers! Founded in 2000, it is a non-profit making fan-run convention and has been held annually apart from 2002 and 2007 when it took “gap” years.

The convention aims to offer something for Transformers fans of all ages, whether you are a casual fan interested in the television show, or a die-hard collector of modern, vintage, and hard to find import toys. Each convention has a large range of dealers from across the country selling all manner of toys ranging from the latest releases, vintage toys from the 80s, imported Japanese and American toys, unusual and rare merchandise, comics, books, and everything else you could ever ask for. But Auto Assembly is much more than that…

We aim to bring you the best guests from the world of Transformers. Every year we bring actors to the convention who have provided the voices to some of the most memorable characters from the TV shows. No two years will be the same and in the past we have been joined by actors from the original series, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Robots In Disguise, Armada, Energon, Cybertron and Transformers: Animated! Comic fans needn’t feel left out as we have a great selection of comic artists and writers join us every year as well and all of our guests are on hand all weekend to meet the fans and sign autographs. All of our guests will also take to the stage during the convention to take questions from the fans in Q&A Panels.

That’s not all you’ll find at Auto Assembly though. We have art displays showcasing a wide range of original pages of comic art and toy box art, a toy display featuring rare Transformers toys from around the world, a video games area, free workshops run by professional comic artists and colourists, and a dedicated programme of activities for our younger attendees including a free creché facilities for the youngest attendees to give their parents a much-needed break!

The convention isn’t just a 9 – 5 event though… Friday is a limited programme aimed at those who book tickets for the weekend and runs from 5:30 pm until around 11:00 pm and is a friendly, informal get-together with videos and a guest panel. Saturday evening plays host to our big entertainment night. This is exclusive to attendees who have weekend passes and has our Cosplay Competition, our script reading where our voice actor guests take to the stage joined by a few fans to perform an original script written by legendary Transformers writer Simon Furman, we have other mystery surprises, and the evening is wrapped up with a karaoke and disco running into the small hours!

If you can’t make Auto Assembly or you don’t live in the UK and think that the distance may be a big problem, then we may have the answer for you – Auto Assembly Europe! Starting in 2011 following the rebranding of Nordcon which was previously organised by the NTFA (Nordic TransFans Association), this is a two day convention with everything you can come to expect from Auto Assembly but on a smaller scale and with a Nordic twist! While it isn’t large enough to have voice actors or some of the activities and events that we run at the larger convention right now, it has it’s own unique events, competitions, activities and events that you won’t find at the UK event and if you can make it to both you won’t regret it!

On this site, you’ll find all the latest news and information on the convention including online booking facilities, information on our team and everything you need to know about attending the event, along with downloadable copies of our out-of-print convention magazines, photos and features on past conventions, links to video coverage from our events, and more. The site will also contain information about Auto Assembly Europe and some other surprises…
