How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
Pretty obvious question really... what got you interested in Transformers? Was it a particular toy, the comics, one of the TV shows or anything else? Have you been a fan since G1 or are you a more recent convert?
Share your personal stories here guys!

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
Gosh, um... I think I might have been watching the cartoon from episode one. I distinctly remember watching a scene with Spike and Bumblebee at a friend's house and I think it was from the first episode... bought the odd comic whenever I ran into one and that kept fueling my imagination until I became a more dedicated collector with #1 of the first Dreamwave mini. I've got about every single comic published since then (plus collected editions of the older ones).

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
I blame my Mum. She came home from shopping one day with G1 Cliffjumper and said "Here. I thought you might like this, you're into robots and stuff like that." Here I am, over 25 years and over 800 Transformers later, and I think she still regrets what she started.

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
I got into Transformers through Beast Wars when I was little because I was crazy for dinosaurs so Dinobot and Megatron were the first 2 that caught my eye but Dinobot was certainly my favourite followed closely by Waspinator. I don't remember G1 from when I was a kid but I must have come across them at some point but I must admit Transformers hooked me fully when Mr Bay brought out his first film so I can at least thank him for dragging me back to Transformers so I'm now fully hooked, very few timeline cartoons elude me and I've got a lot of the comics now.

Was actually into he-man as a kid, though i had a few transformer toys. It wasn't until my cousin introduced me to the animated movie that my love for transformers began.

I had the toys as a yungster in the 80s,
as an adult i rewatched the old goodness (as flawed as it is) and that set me off for the rest of it.

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
I remember buying Skywarp the first Christmas that Transformers were available, because I liked the idea of alien robots fighting a hidden war on Earth (and also because he was an F-15 that turned into a giant robot - I like aeroplanes to an unhealthy degree, as anyone who knows me well will testify - therefore making him a very cool thing that was also a robot). Between that and Marvel uk isssue 1 I was well and truly hooked, and stayed that way for a good many years.
I drifted away from Transformers for a while at University - into the orbit of things like Macross and Patlabor so I wasn't that far away - but what brought me back was bumping into an old friend who was telling me that I really needed to check out this "Transformers Beast Wars" animated series. They were clearancing the videotapes at Woolworths at the time so I picked up Season Three cheap, watched it and discovered a snappily written, quite clever show that really quite caught my attention. The rest has the inevitability of gravity....

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
Been hooked since the very beginning. I would have been three years old, so I'm pretty sure the cartoons were my point of entry, followed by the toys and then, because he had been collecting them since the first issue, my brother's comics cemented my interest. There have been periods between series or even during some particularly bad ones where I've often wondered why I'm still a fan pushing thirty years later, but I guess the simple reason is that despite any Micheal Bay trash or impenetrable eastern cartoons or comics from writers who have little to no understanding or even respect for what they are handling we still have the animated movie, the old Marvel UK material, series like Beast Wars and Animated, and James Roberts to remind us just how great this frachise is capable of being when handled by people who care.

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
First caught my first TF cartoon was i was 13 and was hooked - i think it was the budding engineer in me that meant i spent more time transforming my growing TF toy collection then taking my mum's washing machine apart. TF made me what i am today - an engineer! Now a lot of years older with over a 1000 toys but still the thrill of working out how to transform a new toy gets me every time. See you all at AA.

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
When they first came out, I was probably too old to be interested to be honest as I had entered my teens and although I was a big sci-fi fan, I was more interested in Star Wars and Star Trek. My brother had one or two toys (including Prime) and had about a dozen issues of the Marvel comic, but the only thing I had was the Panini sticker album. At the time, I collected albums and as it was given away with the comic, I bought a couple of issues, got the free stickers, dumped the comics(!) and collected and completed the album! I didn't get into Transformers until around 2000 when the first Auto Assembly came around and I was pretty much forced to watch Beast Wars prior to the convention! I was hooked on the series and it just grew from there! Beast Wars is still my favourite show closely followed by either Prime or RiD, but I enjoy most eras of TFs and have a fairly varied collection now of toys, DVDs, comics and a near complete collection of every Transformers video game ever released... as you'll see in August!

Re: How Did You Get Interested In Transformers?
I was but a sperm when Transformers first began, but my brothers were into it when they were young, and so I grew up with the VHS's on the TV and them having some toys, when I got older I liked playing with them and watching the antique VHS's (all jumpy etc) and then I started buying Transformers for myself when I was in Secondary School with my pocket money, until here I am now at the age of 26 and almost 800 Transformers richer (not to mention my DVD's and Comics)
