“Bumblebee” wows the press, readies to smash the box office

While we’ve always hoped that “Bumblebee” would be good, there was no way of knowing for sure. Yeah, we had trailers and the buzz was good. But for most, the track record was a bit… spotty (though as I said before, I liked the Bayverse for what it was). If early reports from the press are to be believed though, whether you read Rotten Tomatoes or novibet.co.uk or the notice board at your local, it seems that Travis Knight’s interpretation of the origin of the big, kind, very yellow giant is spot-on.

We’ve spoken before about the possibility of “Bumblebee” tanking at the box office, and how there were some odd casting choices. But it seems like there’s no stopping this Autobot story from being a success: at the moment of writing this article, the film (which is set to release worldwide on December 21st), is sitting at a very pretty 97% fresh on the tomato meter from Rotten Tomatoes.

Not only that, take a gander at the type of feedback it’s getting:

“Bumblebee” is basically the movie that fans of the 1980s animated series wanted all along.” – Peter Debruge, Variety.

“As a course correction for the series, pulling the previously complex mythology way back and starting over from scratch, it’s enormously effective.” – William Bibbiani, TheWrap.

“For the last 10 years we’ve just been walking through the desert with Michael Bay and finally this director comes up and says, “I’ve got that cool water for you.” And this movie is refreshing.” – Korey Coleman, Double Toasted.

Not sure what got us excited to begin with? Check out the trailer below:

Every which way you look at it, the fact of the matter is that “Bumblebee” is hitting all the right ticks and and ticking all the right boxes. It remains to be seen whether the hardcore Transformers audience will 100% dig it, or if they’ll even forgive Paramount at this point for (as they say) butchering a beloved franchise.

What seems to be a certainty at the moment is that, despite a very crowded holiday season, this rebootquel (is that a word? I’m making it a word) will get people excited and back into theaters to see a Transformers film.

And isn’t that a thing of beauty?

Let us know in the (brand new) comments section below what your thoughts are on the new film, and whether you’ll be attending the cinemas for the rebirth of this, our beloved franchise.
